OUR MEETING PLACE

The George Walton Chapter meets at 11:00 a.m. the first Thursday of each month from September through May at the historic Wynn House, 1240 Wynnton Road, Columbus, Georgia. Built in 1839, when the city of Columbus was only 11 years old, the Wynn House is a Greek Revival house with Doric columns on three sides of the cupola-capped structure. It was built by Colonel William Wynn, for whom the section of Wynnton is named.

Ownership passed to Congressman Hines Holt in 1855, whose family owned it for 50 years. Union troops spared the house because the Union Captain knew Colonel Holt’s son in school. Since 1958, it has been owned by the Christian Fellowship Association (CFA) of Columbus.

The Wynn House is on the National Register of Historic Places and the City’s Tour of Homes and Historic Places route.
